For sale – 1943 Matchless 41-G3L
This is the first bike from a contract of 8000, contract S.4555 dated October 1942, hence the unusual census number on the tank – C5800000.
Its military service history is unknown and it is currently presented in the correct wartime Khaki Green No. 3 paint with no unit markings.
The bike was fully rebuilt circa 4 years ago. This involved a full engine strip replacing any unserviceable parts including a new big end bearing, pistons, re-bore etc. The gearbox was also fully stripped and rebuilt along with the brakes and forks.
The clutch was replaced as part of the rebuild but the friction plates recently de-bonded requiring a new set of friction and steel discs. This time Surflex plates have been fitted so it should be good for thousands of miles. At the same time the bike was serviced, tuned and the battery replaced.
The tyres are in excellent order with circa 1300 miles on them. The panier frame and bags are both very good quality reproduction items which have seen little use and very little weather. As such they are in excellent condition.
The bike has been to Normandy twice, a tour of the Isle of Wight and numerous steam and vintage rallies. It is however still in near perfect condition retaining lots of its original war time features.
The bike comes with a current (UK) V5C and is registered as a Historic Vehicle and is therefore free from UK road tax and MOT exempt.
